Anna Franke Portrait – Foto: Andrea Vollmer

I consider myself an artist-nomad, travelling with my camper between Berlin and Galicia, stopping wherever I can deepen my thoughts. I sensitively observe all the experiences I have on the travels. I photograph, draw and collect materials from antiquarian bookshops and flea markets. Back in my studio on the Atlantic, I process the new material into paintings and collages.

With my paintings, I make current issues tangible and question entrenched norms.
My compositions are created using a cross-media collage technique to create multi-layered structures in order to reflect the complexity of our time.
I combine longing motifs from advertising, clippings from old science ficiton magazines and typographic elements. Besides my travel encounters, I am inspired by the artists of Dada Collage and Pop Art.

I completed my communication design studies at Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences in 2007, with further international studies in Vienna and Salamanca. For more than 20 years I have been dealing with the expressive forms of collage, worked for three years as an art director in leading advertising agencies and founded the collage collective „COLLAGITOS“. Since 2010 I have been working as a freelancer with a focus on conceptual illustration for publishing houses and creative agencies.

CUSTOMER VOICES

“From the very beginning, I have been fascinated by Anna Franke’s portrait collages. In her filigree and at the same time expressive style she captured the individuality of our protagonists in a wonderful way. Thank you for the great collaboration.”

Anja Jöckel, Photo Editor GEO, Gruner+Jahr GmbH, Hamburg

“For our feature on the work of a touch therapist, Anna Franke developed accompanying illustrations for us that sensitively accentuated the intimacy of the subject.”

Bertram Sturm, Editorial Office Rosegarden Magazine, Berlin

“In an appealing mixed media of painting and collage, Anna Franke confronts aesthetic newspaper cut-outs with people of different origins for the HARBOURFRONT Literature Festival, playfully allowing the force of literature to rise in the faces. The image shows the silent outcry of a loud conflict between opinions, points of view, facts, people and social spaces.”

Jan Mueller-Wiefel, Director GUDBERG NERGER GmbH, Hamburg
